Champion Highlight - Meet MacKenzie Smart
Please join us in welcoming our new Admissions and Programs Administrator, MacKenzie Smart. MacKenzie will be serving as one of the primary points of contact between parents and the school, as she helps students enroll and gain access to valuable resources like the Ohio EdChoice Scholarship and school lunch program, among other important responsibilities serving our classroom teachers.
While MacKenzie might be a new face to some, her history with Harambee and urban ministry extends far back. She began volunteering in the After School Program as a middle school student and later became a leader at the school’s weekly elementary Bible study, Renegade. For the past three years, she has been working with Harambee alumni and their peers as a high school home church leader and mentor. She recently graduated with her degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University.
But moving from part time volunteer to full time staff can be a big transition for anyone. What compelled MacKenzie to take the leap? “The community here at Harambee is what convinced me to work here. It’s incredibly unique to see parents, staff, and students coming together in one school and working with a shared purpose and vision. I love seeing those connections grow and build into lasting and impactful relationships.”
With her diverse experience in urban ministry, education, and gifting as an administrator and passionate people person, we’re excited to see God continue to use MacKenzie to impact the lives of our students and families. Please join us in praying for MacKenzie as she begins this exciting new chapter!
