We’re excited to introduce Michael Mullineaux, a volunteer in Urban Concern’s After School Program and mentoring program. He is a student, deciding between a major in education and physical therapy, and FOH employee at Northstar Cafe. Here’s what Michael has to say about volunteering at Urban Concern:
“I realized how much of an impact spending a couple hours a day with the kids at the school could have on them… I wanted to get to know the kids and be able to influence them in a positive way.”
Since starting as a volunteer at our Middle School Study Table, Michael decided to become a mentor with Urban Concern, as well: “My favorite part about mentoring has been getting to know a 6th grader named Deon…it has changed my life drastically. He is 12 years old and so impressionable. Â I have been hanging out with him a couple times a week, and I know that he is at the age that if I speak truth into his life and show him how to follow God, he can be a great worker for the Lord; but if he doesn’t have anyone there for him, he can be drawn into living a life without God. Â I am so thankful for the opportunity that I have to spend time with Deon.”
Are you interested in becoming a mentor and making a difference like Mike? Join up with Urban Concern and become a mentor by contacting Brandon Grant by email or by calling 614.298.0885.
